..and the bad news is.

One less nut to worry about, one more nutter to worry about.

A patient lost a testicle during an operation because the surgeon cut it off by mistake, a General Medical Council (GMC) hearing has been told.

It is alleged the doctor ... also injected himself with a drug meant for a patient.

Re: ..and the bad news is.

Sarah Prichard, counsel for the GMC, said the mistake was made as a nurse helping the surgeon turned her back to get a stitch.

That surgeon is a genius to take the testicle so fast (without killing the patient)...I smell something funny here...

Well, he only needs one anyhow, right?

I think this is the sort of situation where the "sue happy" stuff that is (allegedly) so prevalent in the US comes in handy. As the hospital is an NHS hospital though and the surgeon has run off to Jordan anyhow, I'm curious how that would go?

Is it like in the US where the folks who use military medical services are not allowed to sue (as it is a government service / benefit)?

How can you cut it by mistake? I mean, it is not like testicles are hanging all over the place and get mixed with something else!

Re: ..and the bad news is.

Surely, as the mistake was spotted immediately , they could re-attach it ?

Well, if he used 2 units of the drug meant for the patient, perhaps he was high enough that mangled things too badly to salvage? That's the only way I can imagine it being done so quickly, particularly given Angela's response.

Edit:
Thinking about it that way, perhaps even if they could reattach it, it would have been disfigured. Maybe the doc "thought" that cutting it off was a better "oops" thing than having it cut in half or whatever (I sooo imagine all the guys wincing at this thought)...

What do the guys think? Would it have been better to have a reattached but deformed one or have it snipped?

Further, with the (serious) idea that all you "need" is one which is functioning... perhaps his next step is to look into getting an implant so that things still at least look equal.
