EF Gaming Group

Hey all!
Thought I'd start a new thread for everything gaming! Whatever platform, from computers to consoles and handhelds, lets talk about it here. We could always organise some boosting sessions or some team matches depending on what people play!

So what are everyones favourite games?
My top 5 are:

1. Gears of War 2
2. Fallout 3
3. Borderlands
4. Left 4 Dead 2
5. Bioshock

Re: EF Gaming Group

Not intending to rain on your parade... I'm sure the guys especially will enjoy seeing a "gamer chick" who isn't afraid to toss it out there like that but I was thinking you might find this other thread about gaming interesting.

I can't remember off the top of my head but I think they discuss consoles and such as well as computer games.

I also think you'll find that some of the folks from that thread are still active.

For myself, I tend to play MMOs, two main reasons being that they are a way to keep in touch with my family back in the US while we do fun stuff together and that usually they allow changes in camera angle and perspective... First Person games give me headaches and make me nauseous so I tend to avoid them even though some could otherwise catch my interest.

Re: EF Gaming Group

The term 'gamer chick' makes my physically ill lol, I hate trying to persue my hobbies with people pointing out that I am infact, female! There are alot of gamers out there that also happen to be girls, they just tend to hide it rather than get labelled as a gamer chick hehe. Couldn't see another thread, but will check that one out, thanks!
I used to play alot of WoW, and probably will start it again once cataclysm comes out. Should totally have an EF guild haha

Bah, some of the gals I know quite proudly refer to themselves as "gamer chicks"... I meant no offense.

I don't tend to refer to myself as one simply because I didn't grow up playing games like that although my sisters (and brothers) did. I somehow never quite felt like I fit... speed ahead 20yrs (and then some) and I was into MMOs in my early 30s.

So far as an EF WoW guild, I think it could be cool, I know there are a few of us who play but I think that some (like me) play on the US servers while others (I know a couple) play on EU. IF we were starting with "vanilla" or were only at the first expac, I might consider restarting but 6yrs in... it's a bit rough.

Re: EF Gaming Group

Haha unfortunatly I am on an EU server, may have to make another character while I am here! In the UK 'gamer chicks' is the name usually given to girls who have no real interest in games, play very badly and use it as a way to pull men! It is a shame, they ruin it for the rest of us :P
What got you into MMO's all these years later then?

Re: EF Gaming Group

Well...

I was spending all my money partying in Tampa, Orlando and Miami and got my heart stomped on... My older sis and her family were staying with my mother at the time and convinced me to try Dark Age of Camelot to take my mind off the guy.

A year or so in, I started hanging out more in game with the guy who now is my husband.

So far as the "gamer chick" stuff... some of the folks I play with recently went to BlizzCon in LA and met a few of the Blizzard CSR / GMs who post on the Customer Service Forum for WoW-US. I'm not sure who was swooning more - one of the young girls is really cute (looks and personality) and one of the GMs is omg drop dead hawt.

I LOLed at the oxymoron... then remembered my parents-in-law both play solitaire and are quite competitive against each other. They even send each other screenshots once the game is finished.

2. Gears of War (1/2)
3. Half Life (Day One, 2, Ep1, Ep2)

Looking for a "suitable" picture for birthday wishes for a gaming friend, I came across this.

I laughed so hard I had a coughing fit (danged cold won't let go of my lungs).

It certainly worked for mine (son, not virginity), altho' he also abstained from the rest of life too, considering 4 hours of WoW at a stretch "not excessive" and had to repeat his 2nd year of lycée. WoW is evil.

Anyone for Wii golf?

$15 a month is waay too expensive IMO. He won't lose it anyways.

I've personally never met a so called "gamer chick" but considering the few females I actually know, that's not really a relevant statement.

Hi

My son has been saving up for a while now for a gaming laptop. He now has the funds and seen one he'd like. I know nothing about these things at all, so have no idea if the one he has seen is a good one or not. Could anyone who knows about these things let me know if this laptop is good for games such as minecraft and team fortress 2? He also has a DJ mixing board & software that he'd like to use on it, plus other stuff like video editing. the laptop is a
"dell xps 1645".

http://www.ndc.co.uk/Dell_Studio_XPS...lay-14383.html

Any help advice would be truuuuuly appreciated.

many thanks

I could be in for any variant of Halo except Wars, or Call of Duty (have only played Black Ops, but presumably the skills are transferable...

Re: EF Gaming Group

The graphics card is the most important thing in a gaming laptop and that one has a pretty good one. The biggest issue is heat. I have had my 15 inch for about 3 years and it still runs games great but only because I fully dismantle it every 6 months and blow out the dust and apply new thermal paste.

The good news is that because of the size/heat issues it should not become dated very quickly. My laptop still plays tf2 at max, deux ex at max, etc. I do have to turn down the anti-aliasing but the resolution is high enough that it doesn't matter.

15 inch is about the maximum for true portability. If you are going to go 16 I might just suggest saving some money and jumping to 17. They are also much better with heat.

Have you checked out noteboookreview.com for that model? They usually have threads telling what the latest hot laptop is and the ones people are waiting for.

If your son really really wants to have a good gaming machine, ask him to go for a Desktop.
Digitec has some really awesome builds which might help you and him make a choice.

But even then if your son really really are interested in a notebook, take a look at Alienware notebooks (which was recently bought by dell and have affordable prices now).
These are also on digitec or on the dell website.

PS: I have an XPS m1730 monster with over two 512mb nvidia radeons in SLI.
Its a very very good gaming laptop but cost me an arm and a leg when I got it 2-3 years ago. And its loud ! And not really a portable laptop, since at 17" screen and a weight of over 8 kilos...its not really practical to move it around.

Good Luck.
