We bought a house and are going to spruce up the main bathroom by installing mosaic tiles in the bath/shower area.

When discussing it, the real estate agent gave us the old finger rub together and said "expensive". Has anyone had experience with mosaic tiles here? You can buy them by the sheet in Canada/US/UK making the installation easier....do they do that as well here or are they installed one by one?

there are two types - the single, really annoying ones and the sheet versions.

the sheet ones will be a little more to install and the individual ones a lot more.

grouting both is not as easy as 20x20-type tiles (bigger ones are even easier )

Are you planning to do the shower floor or are you just thinking about the walls?

Im going to be looking to do the same thing soon and am starting to wonder wether this is one of those items you should pop across the border to buy!

But then so far that seems to be just about everything you can carry!

I guess I will get used to the prices!

I did a large bathroom in Germany with an Italian brand of mosaic tiles. They truly are beautiful, have to admit they were all rather expensive. One thing that really blew the budget was deciding to design the floor with a design of the same tile in different sizes... never again. Beware, in case you were thinking along those lines.

The tiles are not THAT much more expensive and if it is your own house, then you want what you want. Basta

It's just the wall, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Were expecting the full offer (yard, kitchen, windows....the list goes on) by the end of the week so I'm sure I'll have tons of other questions!!

We did our downstairs bathroom with mosaic on the floor - it's not a big room so in fact was not that expensive. We have a wet room and I think it looks nice with mosaic because you can't see the slope in the floor to the shower drain.

because they have a big selection (and a kids play area in the store which made browsing so much easier!)

Basically if you want to choose the combination of colours exactly - so 40% white, 20% green, 20% pale blue, 20% darker blue (like ours ) then this costs a lot but if you choose one of their pre-made colour combinations this is a lot cheaper - both of those options came in sheets we were never given the option to have individual pieces so they made up the sheets with our chosen colours. I can imagine that a tiler would charge more to tile a wall with mosaic than a floor because it's harder.... I guess.... maybe they have some special gadget that makes it easier! I don't really know it's true just imagining how hard it'd be to put a mesh of wobbley mosaic tiles on the wall....?!

It looks gorgeous though I have to say I would have done it for the whole room if it hadn't been so darn expensive (although perhaps may have been a bit too swimming-pool-ish!)
