Finding a House in Schaffhausen

We are moving to Schaffhausen in the summer and I am looking for a house but have no idea which are the best areas in terms of the Internataional school and international community. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Any thoughts on a good agent would be welcomed?

Schaffhausen is really beautiful in Summer, close to the Rhein, great for water sports.

Re: Finding a House in Shaffhausen

Hi there!
I just moved to Schaffhausen myself ... I don't have kids myself, I did some researches before moving and you may want to look at the breite area, or Herblingen if you wantt o live in town or close to it. The international school is also not far from both places.

Alterntives are Feuerthalen, or some of the villages around the city (Beringen, Stetten, Tahyngen ...) ....

You are going to love the place, in summer there's lots to do!

Enjoy

Do you really need a house ? Or might a large apartment do ? A nice area in Schaffhausen is the Breite, for instance the Quellenstrasse. There used to be some small nice houses on Quellenstrasse, but inhabitants there of course will not give up so easily. You of course might contact the people in Quellenstrasse 17 who bought their half-house back in 1965 (unless ownership has changed once or twice or threetimes ! ) and now might be interested in giving up

Re: Finding a House in Shaffhausen

We have been here in the Schaffhausen area for nearly 5 years so know it very well.
Because of the increase in the numbers of people coming with the various large overseas companies here, houses are very difficult to find if you want to rent. If you want to buy it is not so difficult. Apartments are always available.

We have friends who are being re-located overseas who have a house to rent in Lohningen, 15 mins to the International School and 8 mins into town. They will be leaving in the next 2 months, maybe of interest to you.

Do you not have a re-location company working with you?

Re: Finding a House in Shaffhausen

You might want to consider Flurigen because, although it is basically in the town of Schaffhausen (just across a bridge), it is part of the Canton of Zurich rather than the Canton of Schaffhausen. This means that the income tax rate is something like 5-6% lower than it would be if you lived in the Canton of Schaffhausen. If that's not important to you, then Breite is a nice area in Schaffhausen where many ex-pats choose to live. It's maybe a 5-10 minute drive to the international school from there. If you don't have one already, I would strongly recommend hiring a relocation agent to help you find housing, get registered upon arrival, etc. etc. This is especially important if you are not a German speaker.
