Hi all, my first post.

I previously lived in Zurich for 15 yrs so I know the city very well.

I am possibly going to be working there again for a fixed 6 month period and will need a furnished apartment for my stay. Any tips as to where to start looking and an idea of what I may need to pay ? I checked craigslist and that seems to be full of scammers.

I will need a 1 bed apartment (2 1/2 ?), what sort of budget should I set ? I would like to be within a 15-20 min S bahn train ride away, but obviously a central location would be nice

A quick search on homegate.ch under the furnishing option will give you an idea on the prices you expect to pay for a furnished flat. Alternatively, try ums.ch

Its a site where homeowners plan to go on long vacations and sublet their homes.

Since you've lived here for 15 years, you should have an idea of which areas you want to live, to narrow things down further.

My old stamping grounds were Kreis 2 and 3, but I'm not sure that they will be in my current price range ( ca Sfr 1500).

This Thread in the Adverts for Property Sub Forum has a lot of links. How many are useful I don't know, but at least it gives you something to work on while you are burning the midnight oil.

Within your price range is very difficult to find a furnished apartment in the city (kreis 1).
Expect to pay ard 4000 for one bedroom apartment.
You could check with Zurich relocation but they are very expensive. You can find them at homegate.

With that price range, short fixed term, and wanting it fully furnished and central, you are best off flat sharing.

so you might want to rethink you options..

Thanks. Unfurnished is not an option, I can maybe push to CHF2000 with some support from my future employer.

The expatriates.com site has extremely low rental prices. Would I be right in doubting the validity of some of these postings ?

Yes! Beware of scammer...the scum of the earth in my opinion.

Craigslist is also full of scammers!
