Au pairs are supposed to be helpers. Some light housework, and 'helping' with children, never have sole charge. Their health care has to be provided, and time given for a language course paid for by the family.

As said already, the Fed. legislature for the first time just imposed minimum wages for house cleaners of chf 18.20 per hour (min. qualifications) also apparently due to people taking advantage of them. If you want to call them personal assistant or whatever, then they would be covered by general employment law and other (presumable) wage scales.
