Help or Ideas in moving from Neuchatel to Bern

Hello EF,

I have decided to move from Neuchatel to Bern. I already have got an apartment. And currently I do not own anything except clothes and a little bit, here and there.

All in all, I might have my belongings packed in 3 or 4 suitcases and some other small stuff like a laptop bag etc. I needed a plan to move them about 50 kms (door to door) in Bern. I wanted to know if I can get just a moving service who wont charge me as much as 1500 CHF as claimed by some moving companies to move my few suitcases, and those were the cheapest, some ever bragged about how great their service is and why they charge 2500 CHF + .

Or some help from anyone who can charge gas and find a reasonable price.

Since I don't own a driving licence yet, I cannot rent a car. And I wanted to avoid make 5 to 6 rounds via train to Bern, to take a single suitcase each time, coz that's gonna be painful

Any help out there would be really appreciated.

Cheers
A.J

hi A.J,

I live near Biel and have a largish car and could probably fit your 5 or so bags in it.

My round trip to help you according to Google Maps would be around 130 kms and 2 hours. I would adjust both figures slightly upwards taking into account traffic etc. That means a petrol cost of about 10 - 20 chf.

I am busy studying for exams so would not really be keen to spend two hours driving around but if you make it worth my while I could make some time available.

If you are really stuck for ideas, send me a PM!

cheers

What about a big taxi? It will definitely be cheaper than the moving service!

This did struck me. However, i wasnt too keen on approaching the local taxi's since I never saw a cab running on the highways before in Swiss.

Still I am stuck for ideas and will to see if it is possible and if it can be cheaper.

Thanks

I just call some of Taxi services and ti got different rates varuing from 200 Chf to 250 CHF to travel for 50 Kms. Sounds reasonable.

May be will make a few more calls to see if there can be anything better.

Lemme know if anyone has any more better plans (Though m aware I am pushing it a bit :P)

Cheers

The train can take unaccompanied luggage. If you can get it to the railway station at one end then you can pick it up at the other. There should be no problems if you are talking suitcases.

You can do this the day before you travel yourself.

Here's the link

I did not get any pm from you but... it seems like a Taxi and/or sending baggage on the train is a good option.

Re: Help or Ideas in moving from Neuchatel to Bern

Thanks for all your help.

I finalised it for 150 CHF all inclusive, which is a good deal to move from door to door in one shot. i dont have to come back to this place anyways, so it turn out to be the best option.

About the train, is fine as well, but in the end it would have cost me a bit less or the same including the cab rides in Neuch and Bern and would have been some hassel to move things from cab to train and vice versa, still a very good option if someone is moving from say geneva to zurich or for longer distance.

Thanks for all the helps and offers

The thread can now be closed.

Cheers

Lol not really, got an offer from one of the EF members.

However, the taxi option was also good (yeah yeah, u were right ) . It came out to be 170 CHF to 250 CHF, depending on the company.

I agree, now that m moving to a new place, it would be good start to check the forum from time to time to be a part of some activities. I never really used the forum until October when I wanted to sell some stuff. Only if I knew before, I would have known more English speaking people until now . Nevertheless, its never too late to start

I also checked the Cafe Du Cerf meet ur arranging, unfortunately, i would be in bern by then or would have loved to join. Enjoy the meet.

Cheers
