Is Baar a good choice?

We are hoping to relocate to Switzerland in the summer. Mt husband will be working in Baar and the children (7 and 4) will go the the International school of Zug.

we are trying to get by on one car so ideally need to be close to hubbies work, while also living near other families with chidren at the school.

Is Baar a place where there are familes from the school ? Is is a nice place to live , near any shops cafes etc...?

We have a budget of about 3,500CH per month to rent a 3/4 bedroom apartment. Would have liked a house but think thats way out of our range! Do many families live in apartments?

Any info would be great - sorry for all the questions.

We will be getting a relocation agent but always appreciate advice from those that have 'been there done that'

Thankyou in advance

Re: Is Baar a good choice?

Hi and welcome to EF. Although we don't live in Baar, it is one of the best places to live if your kids will be going to ISZL. It's literally just a few minutes from the school by car but also there is an excellent public transport system here in Switzerland. It's very safe and very clean. The kids from the school use it all the time with no problem. Even as small as yours. There are many many expats in Baar and it is a very cute city with lots of shops, cafe's and it's very easy to get to other places from it. Good luck with the move

Re: Is Baar a good choice?

Well I live in a large apartment. 3 bed, kitchen/dining room, living room, cellar, shower.bathroom, two toilets, covered parking and garden in your price range.

I am on the border of Zug and Baar. If you are actually in Baar, there are some shops and bars. A short trip into Zug and you will find many more.

I also wanted a house but there were none to be had when I was looking. I'll keep ur details handy as we may have a move happening in the near future.

I think there is a school bus that picks kids up for the school.

Re: Is Baar a good choice?

We live in Baar, and it is a fabulous place for a family.

It is close to Zürich and Luzern if you want culture, and it is close to some very good ski resorts such as Stoos and Engelberg.

Transport is really good so you will only need 1 car.

As far as crime goes, there is really no difference where you live.

There are differences, however, on the amount of traffic that comes through your neighborhood and thus noise. There are also differences in the view.

If you are up on the hill, you will have a better view of the lake.
