How about stop being a smartass and doing your homework?
Why is everyone so miserable around here? He's just joined the forum. Give him a break and try pointing him in the right direction. It's not like there's that many people based in Geneva on here so the more the merrier, and frankly if after a first post on a new forum wanting to find out about a big move I wouldn't be surprised by anyone throwing out a few smartass replies given the first few responses he received from our esteemed "forum veterans"

miserable ?... ok maybe abit but I was in my miserable curmudgeon way trying to point out that asking people who know -0- about him where he should eat and where he should go is not the most efficient process.

I have been looking for apartments in homegate.ch, and actually I found some.
You should also use this web-site : www.anibis.ch

It looks less "professional" than homegate.ch, but it has fresher annoucements.

As far as I have understood, tenants would rather use anibis.ch, and agencies would rather use homegate.ch. And when a tenant want to leave, he puts the annoucement on anibis.ch for getting his flat to be visited. And as soon as he has a few people interested for sure in the flat, then he contacts the agency to inform he will leave the flat, that some people have visited the flat very recently and that those people are going to apply asap. So the agency does not have to put an ad to homegate.ch, and the agency can not charge the leaving tenant with a rent for a vacant flat after hasty departure. At least, that's how I have understood the system.

/Paul

No problem with asking him to clarify, but it's how you do it that matters. Do you honestly think that being a miserable smartass is going to encourage him to join in and be a fun-loving member of the EF community, or is he just going to say "what a bunch of ****ers" and leave us to listen to you and LiB dribbling on your keyboards?

It seems that most times a new guy turns up on here and doesn't somehow magically know how to ask the questions in the best possible way he gets shot down in flames rather than being welcomed and encouraged. Bit sad if you ask me...

..what's wrong with that? It's not like you tend to post the meaning of life on a daily basis. Lighten up a little will ya....and as Grynch pointed out...how the ferk are we supposed to know how to help out the op..if we don't have the slightest idea what he likes to do/eat and see.

LiB,

He thinks we should be more polite... GS is growing tired of us and wants to attract fresh meat.

Hey, I have no problems with having some jokes on here. You two are occasionally amusing Just that like with all things there's a time and a place - no harm in being friendly and helpful from time to time.

Personally I try to be helpful because 1) I sure as hell am not funny and 2) I got a lot of help and advice from the forum when I first arrived and was trying to work out how Switzerland worked, so there you go...

Re: Apartment in Geneva

Thanks for who gave me useful information,

and I will try to explain my ideas better. I do not visit online forums that often, so I am not too familiar with this. But I guess it is a good place to find out about a place that I've never been before.

regards

Re: Apartment in Geneva

If there are apartments to find in GE within that rent rate, then it would be around Cornavin. Good luck, I had two friends renting there, both appartments for 1300 fr a mo, but it took both cca 6mo to get those. For the eating bits, nearby Manor is a decent place to eat, Cornavin has a bunch of little corner cafes and restos, not too expensive (well, everything is, in Geneva, so get ready). Welcome here. And never mind the squables, they are just playin'.

(and gryng, I was expecting you to tell him to eat some beeeegibles...you bubala you).
