Apartment in Geneva

Hello,

I am moving to Geneva in March and I am looking for an apartment there. I would like to rent one that has two bedrooms and is located somewhere around Gare Cornavin station. Does anyone knows a good place? It would be great if you also give me informations about restaurants where i should eat, places to visit, and the expected costs (i am thinking about an apartment from 1500 to 2500).

Regards!

Luiz

Re: Apartment in Geneva

* deep breath * ok Luiz, as replies here are coming in slower than I thought I'm gonna have a go here...

while you question about an apartment is a valid one ( if I think unrealistic ) I can't really help you there.

your question about what you should eat?

we know absolutely nothing about you, your tastes, nor your food budget so do I suggest kentucky fried chicken? ( if so meet my friend mr. LiB ) or Michelin starred cuisine?

where you should visit? Again... you want a night with the hookers, go to Paquis, if you want Opera the Grand Theatre ...

hope this helped

Re: Apartment in Geneva

Welcome to the forum!

As you may have noticed, there are a few friendly imbeciles around here - best to ignore them for the moment...

If you have a little look around the forum, there is quite a lot of info about hunting for flats in Geneva. A quick resume is that it is very very very hard to find something, anywhere in Geneva, let alone exactly where you want it. For your info I was in a one-bed near Cornavin (about 50m2, nothing fancy) until last year which cost CHF1,900 per month, so if you need 2 bedrooms you aren't going to get much change from your 2,500 upper limit. You need to prepare all your documents before hand (everything goes very fast) and come and visit, probably for a week or two and apply for everything you find that is even vaguely feasible - with luck you'll get one place accepting you...

A good place to start is homegate.ch which should give you an idea on prices. Bear in mind that anything that looks too good to be true probably is - there are scammers out there so be careful.

I'll leave you to peruse the forum for info ont eh other questions you mentioned, but again there is plenty of info if you take the time to search for it.

Cheers,
GenevaSculler

Re: Apartment in Geneva

Geneva is incredibly expensive, I don't think that you can find a decent place with your limits. It's even hard in Lausanne with that money.
I suggest you go out of Geneva a bit, and try renting there, should be cheaper.

Re: Apartment in Geneva

thanks geneva sculler. I have been looking for apartments in homegate.ch, and actually I found some. For sure I am not dumb enough to rent something that I did not visit. But even in websites like that there are scums? Because all the ads I saw were recommended by rental companies. Actually, have you heard about Edouard BRUN & Cie S.A. or Wincasa SA Services Immobiliers? are they real companies?

and Grynch definitely i am not thinking about a night with hookers. I guess you are friends with really weird guys (nerds or geeks). That is not my problem. But, thanks for the information, maybe it can be useful sometime.

Regards

Hmmm... how much do you think it would be a good price for a two bedroom apartment near Gare? Give me a range of prices.

You see how I am smart? I noticed that without seeing you... Maybe someone could suggest me good restaurants without seeing me. Now did you get it?

A good price is whatever decent real estate management companies advertise on homegate for the size appartment you're looking for in the specific region.

Geneva real estate is not a tenants' market - there are literally hundreds of persons applying for each appartment. If you can't afford the price, change your criteria - nobody will haggle with you on rent.

It's probably less to do with the price range and more to do with if you can actually find anything available which suits at around the time you need it. I would advise broadening your search a lot - Geneva is small and there are very good links from most areas in the centre to Gare Cornavin using bus or tram (or you could cycle).

For a small 2 bedroom place I would guess 2,500 is the absolute minimum.
