Re: Geneva - France, areas to investigate?

From what everyone has said, maybe you should be looking at villages with a good public transport connection to Geneva?

Friends of ours live in Collonges sous Saleve
It's a nice place, I lived just over the boarder several years, in Croix-de-Rozon, where you've got buses going to Carouge.

Friends of ours live in Collonges sous Saleve and it is right by a very quiet customs post, so is well worth considering. It's a quite nice village too, and the houses in the higher part of the village can have a nice view of Lake Geneva and the Jura too, as well as the Saleve out the back.
this is where i live

and it is perfect for working in geneva.. it has the best border crossings, the least traffic and the best views.

Generally that is a good suggestion, but for most people that have lived here for a while the words "good public transport" and "France" should not be combined in the same sentence. There are indeed a few exceptions and things should improve in about 5-10 years with CEVA.

Re: Geneva - France, areas to investigate?

Rush hour seems to vary! That sounds vague I know but some days you can get in your car at 7.45am and 5pm and sail through the traffic and other days it's awful. Working days here can be longer because some people take a 2 hour lunch break and work later.

As a general guide though I would say that 7.30am-8.45am and 5pm-7pm are the times that can be tricky.

If you manage to find a house that gives you entry to Geneva via the smaller quieter roads your commute will probably be a bit more pleasant.

Based on where the office is, commuting in from one of the Swiss villages in the area west of GE such as Vandoeuvres, Jussy, Puplinge, Presinge or even Vesenaz etc would be the most convenient option, and it's very pretty out there too with views of Jura/Alps/Saleve etc. It does rather depend on your budget though - check out homegate.ch for an idea of prices.
