I think its only fair to point out the swiss government gave people huge subsidies to build the shelters, and part of the deal was they where allowed to come and inspect them.

Re: Fallout Shelters

How do you tell whether yours is a fallout shelter or a normal basement? (short of setting a bomb off)

What about inspections when you put in a new breaker box for example? They only inspect the shelters every few years or so, and from all accounts it's a pretty quick deal.

No, come on, there are reasons why you should not be.

1. They're nice people - look

2. They have no right to enter your home in Oklahoma
Looks like the Reservoir Dogs have had puppies.

Yes, but it appears that the shelters are not an option in some instances. Also, you make these subsidies sound like a free gift. It's being paid for by the people being forced to house them through their tax dollars/francs.

I guess when they were common, Ronald and Mikhail were sorting out things. Before that, there was the Cuban missile crisis.

Thankfully, we're all good mates now

The shelters came about in a post war Atomic age (lots of sh!t wasn't optional during the war). Bear in mind the guvment isn't pulling the wool over its people's eyes with some evil masterplan- the concept was survival of a nuclear attack.

Re: Fallout Shelters

We're having a new build - wasn't even a consideration in the design; need the cellar space, plus there's a communal one across the way - although when the balloon goes up, it'll probably just be easier just to pop the pill (can't be arsed to run) ..... just have to make sure I've got the date of the next test - don't want any false alarms ... that would leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Okay, I understand. I just feel like sometimes people like to make the government sound charitable for spending their own hard earned dollars/francs.

Beats the sh!t out of the get "on the ground and don't look at the blast" option US folk were subsidising with their taxes if you ask me.

At least we got amazing wine cellars out of it.

I'm not sure what I think about the US option. But if people here find fallout shelters to be a priority, they will take it upon themselves to have one.
