I used to get the metro everyday in Basel. Now you can only get the 20mins.

Cheers,

Re: Scam: craigslist Basel

watch out!! found another one!!

"w.jk78@yahoo.com" from craigslist basel.

w.jk78 SURE sounds a lots like "wkj38" (which was mentioned earlier in this forum).

he also mentions a "metro" system in switzerland. suspicious - agreed. this forum confirmed all of my suspicions after 1) i only got pics of the apartment 2) he took the keys with him and seems to be no copy of the keys or company in basel with the keys and 3) it seemed i would eventually need to make rental/legal/financial agreements via email and not in person or through a company if he was no longer present.... no way, jose!

SCAM!

don't be tricked by these types of emails everyone:

Hilarous. There is only one metro in Switzerland, and that is in Lausanne, unless of course you consider the Zurich S-Bahn a metro system.

Re: Scam: craigslist Basel

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and i was searching for an apartment to rent. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me whether this is a spam:
Hello,

I am the owner of the apartment located at ...

Bedrooms: 2
Bathrooms: 1
Floor Area : 64 m²

The property is available for rent at 600 EUR per month including all utilities (Electricity/Telephone/Cable/
Internet/Water) for as long as you need. The rent is for the entire apartment. The apartment is in a very good condition, very clean and completely livable. I know that the asking rent is lesser then the average price requested in that area but not using a letting agent and not paying fees and commissions allows me to ask a lower rental price than others. The kitchen is completely furnished and everything is included in the rental price. In the house you will find ADSL internet and Wi-Fi access.

The apartment was bought by me in 2011, I lived there until 2013 when my job contract was over and I returned home to Portugal.

Also the house is near the public transportation, a gym, and other facilities. The house has a parking space for one car. I have spent a great amount of money with the apartment and my request is that you treat it like it was your own.

I have the house keys with me. When I do find a reliable tenant I will return to Zurich to show the house and complete the lease agreement.

Please let me know if you are seriously interested.

Sincerely,

Re: Scam: craigslist Basel

It is a scam.

1) Rent in Euros
2) Complicated reason for renting that is not relevant to the property
3) The rent is much lower than the market rate

I saw that and told him but he replied:

Thank you for your response.
The price is 650CHF=600EUR.

We will not use the apartaments in the next ten years, that is what I can tell for sure. Also, we may never need to. We also own apartments in Wien, Amsterdam and few more countries in Europe. You have available a large storage space in the building so you are able to move the furniture as you wish.

Like I already said in my first email, my current location is Portugal. Unfortunately, lately I have had bad experiences with prospective tenants so that it happened for me to travel to Zurich for nothing which involved a complete waste of time and efforts. Having recieved proofs from tenants according with they being interested in renting (passport, job contracts showing their earnings, bank statements) proved to be ineffective for my certainty. Some tenants tend to put additional conditions even if they had not been discussed previously or worse, they sometimes still try to negociate after traveling back to Portugal. Some of them also asked me to wait until the end of the month for them to get paid. I hope my explanation is enough for you to understand my point of view and why I chose Airbnb.

My apartment is listed on airbnb.com and I have more good reviews.

Let me know if you know about airbnb and I if you are ready to rent the apartment for the first month. That is my certainty guarantee and the only way I can come to Zurich.

I have sent you a copy of my passport and more details about me.

Hope you understand.

Thank you and I'm waiting for your response.

Re: Scam: craigslist Basel

Simples. Are they demanding money up front? Then it's most likely a scam.

Ask to view the apartment and contract before committing to rent. If they are not able to accommodate this, then it's most likely a scam.

Why?? People still respond to them.

(Although I did respond on AirBnB for a really high end ski lodge in St Anton explaining that there would be about 20 guys and a "lot" of young ladies. And could they let us know about the damage deposit for liquid spills. No reply from them.

There was another one on AirBnB when I asked them whether they were godly people - again no reply)
