Re: Moving to bern need help

Bumpliz is a good spot on the outskirts of Bern - short bus or train ride in (I used to walk 45 minutes to the uni each morning) and there's a fairly international populace. It's also cheaper to rent out there with some fairly roomy places to live. It's also close to Westside, which offers a great chance to walk around a mall full of closed shops on a Sunday.
Actually, I say 'bus', but they've probably got the tram up and running now. All that contruction noise and we moved away before we could use it...

If you have never rented in Switzerland I'd advise you to read the sticky in "Housing in General". There you'll find a list of appartment-search sites and much more useful info (how the number of rooms is counted etc.).

I might know someone who is moving out around march/april in the Liebefeld area, will get back to you with more info.

Whew, thanks I needed that Yes, rent is cheaper there, but that's because it's a crap-hole Oh, trams are up and running now since a few weeks.

To the OP: check the usual "immo" websites for an apartment:
www.immoscout24.ch
www.homegate.ch

...or maybe ask with the Uni if anyone there can help. Finding a good apartment can be tricky, especially for a foreigner. Good luck

Re: Moving to bern need help

The closest area to the Inselspital is either Länggasse or Ausserholligen. Ausserholligen is cheapish and probably your best bet if you need something that close to the Inselspital. Otherwise look for streets: Murtenstrasse, Laupenstrasse, Freiburgstrasse, Friedbühlstrasse, Loryplatz, even Effingerstrasse. All close to Insel and in the general vicinity of the area known as Ausserholligen. Länggasse is somewhat more expensive so go for streets like Stadtbachstrasse, or Bühlstrasse, even Muesmattstrasse or Depotstrasse which are basically the out roads of Länggasse. Hope this is helpful.

If you are coming to work at Insel, I would suggest take temporary housing from University first and take your time looking for places. Once you are here it will be easier to know where you want to live and whether you want to take a bus/tram or just find something in walking distance (which is most of central Bern).

Bumpliz is not a decent place to live so avoid it unless you want to go really cheap.

To locate the streets you mentioned and finding the distance to the Inselspital try this map.
+ the Inselspital is just a few min. by bus from the main station.

If you are comfortable with giving some more info, could you tell if you are looking for a place for you alone? Price range?

More and more folk looking for housing, jobs and things to buy or sell find EF and come on here for that, and that alone. There are links to maps on here. There are links to 'Housing Sites' on here.

I appreciate that it is rough on the OP, but this Site is not simply a place for those seeking housing. As soon as he puts in too much specific info his Thread it becomes an Advertisement and is then subject to the Market Place Rules.

Thanx jjmuge for the map.........i should have thought of the map before.......
I will be moving alone first later on my wife will join me, like after 2-3 months. So initially I can stay at any place near my workplace. Since its two of us only so I need, at the most two rooms.

Re: Moving to Bern need help - advice on sites, areas etc.

As public transport here is really good, you could also check this out. The Sticky in the Transport section takes a bit of going through, but the information is there. This would widen your range somewhat.

As someone has already said, it is almost impossible to arrange permanent accomodation before you get here. Check out the Uni Spital - ask if they have rooms for temporary stay or can recommend somewhere. What do other folk from abroad do if they come to work there? There must be others in the same boat as you. Furnished rooms might be an idea, as I hardly think you are bringing everything with you.
