Oh well, can't have everything in this world. |

It might be worth taking a bunch of flowers with you, that's a nice welcoming present here, but not big enough as a bribe.
Definitely shoes off, and keep the cash hidden unless (s)he asks for it.

Just stepping back from this when did it become customary to lick a landlords arse?
It stupidity do these people want the cash or what? If you're a tidy person can prove you earn a good wage and are a professional what's the problem, give them the details they ask for be yourself and if you don't click so be it.
I can't see that happening as you are both great people.
Ask them for the payment details, pay the money when asked into their account job done.
Although I'm partial to those 1000chf notes [in praise of the] CHF 1000 Note

Never had to show cash upfront when moving, and I've never heard of anyone else doing it either. Perhaps have a copy of a bank statement / pay receipt / work contract just in case. The times I've moved the deal is roughly:
1. Sign contract
2. Receive payment slips for rent and form to open the special deposit bank account
3. Transfer deposit into account; pay 1st month's rent a few days before it's due...
Your mileage may vary, though

I think that used notes, with non-consecutive numbers, in a brown envelope is the usual practice.
Good luck

Will OH be wearing his waterproof jacket with logo of well-repected Swiss institution?
Can't work out if this could be a positive or negative...
Oh, and take a copy of your "rep" scores. If that doesn't persuade them of your good standing, nothing will |

Remember to tell them the secret code phrase.
'Monkey Brains'
There I said it! I may be lifted by the Swiss mafia now that I've revealed this. Use this information wisely.
It was nice knowing you all.

The flat is in a small town in Glarus if that helps (i.e. probably not Zurich-level competition for housing) but still - probably better safe than sorry, right?
you'll be fine, the swiss don't do commuting so I doubt there is much if any competition for the place, everyone at work thinks I'm totally mental for buying a place just down the road from you in Glarus.

Vreny Schneider, the Olympic ski racer, is Glarnerland's claim to fame.
Don't mention Anna Göldin, the last witch to be executed in Switzerland, respectively, Kanton Glarus.
Good luck. You'll win them over.

One additional thought. Assuming that you do both take your shoes off, make sure that DB is looking carefully for hidden concrete steps | The following 6 users would like to thank Deep Purple for this useful post:

"Ah hour, on the train" "are you mad?????" | | | | | Urban myth I'm afraid. The early trains from Sargans and even Chur or Buchs are packed with commuters in the mornings. You'll have to fight for a seat on the fast train from Ziegelbrücke!

Pshhh, fast train. Glarner Sprinter'll do for me, thanks very much. (This morning instead of its usual sweet self it was an S-Bahn-type double-decker. Disappointing but kinda neat too - I went and sat upstairs for a nice view of the lake.)
So the consensus is no cash, no shoes, be ourselves and don't stub our toes. Right, think we can manage that. Thanks, everyone! | The following 3 users would like to thank MathNut for this useful post:

"Ah hour, on the train" "are you mad?????" | | | | | Too true - I don't quite get the local attitude to commuting either. And yet some of the same above-mentioned people will willingly spend an equal amount of time slow-crawling in a car through the dire Zurich road traffic 'system' only to have to pay a small fortune in rent for their monthly parking space near the office.
