Sorry about my laconic message earlier - I was on my irritating little phone thing.
So... we turned up at the flat to be greeted by someone whom we presumed to be a friendly neighbour who seemed to be very interested in finding out all about us. He turned out to be the landlord after all, and a very friendly chap he was, too!
No cash changed hands, we took off our shoes (I didn't think my muddy snowboots would have gone down very well on the recently laid parquet floors), and I wore my orange SBB jacket without any ill effects, and now we have a new flat, into which we can move from the 1st of March.
Is anyone looking for a lovely 4 room apartment in Maennedorf? We'll clean it up and everything before we leave... | The following 10 users would like to thank for this useful post:

Pics? Or would that be risking your private retreat to reveal what it looks like to your hordes of adoring fans?

We are from the UK and the main question they wanted to know was how English are we, could they meet with us just to see. Read into that what you will.
When we went into the office the contracts were ready to sign and within 10 minutes we were finished. Don't take any cash, they will give you the bank details. | | | | | Take all the cash ,but don`t bring any |

The flat is in a small town in Glarus if that helps (i.e. probably not Zurich-level competition for housing) but still - probably better safe than sorry, right? | | | | | Don`t tell them that you hate 'Schabzigger' | This user would like to thank cannut for this useful post:

| | Re: Meeting apartment owner: bring cash? | Quote: | | | | | We've applied for an apartment, been shortlisted by the agency and now selected to meet the owner. The agent told us when we viewed the flat that the owner might eventually want to meet us - he said it is "keine Prüfung" and we shouldn't worry... needless to say, I am ignoring him and worrying anyway. We both want this flat so bad we can taste it!
So we're meeting them both (agent+owner) tonight. Any advice for us - what to do, what not to do?
Should we bring a wodge of cash for the deposit and first month's rent? I have a vague impression that that's the Swiss way of making large purchases. Or will we just look like drug dealers if we do that? Maybe the real Swiss do everything by "Rächnig per Poscht"....
The deposit has to go into a separate bank account anyway, so there's no real point to bringing cash as far as I can see, except as a gesture to stress that we are ready to take this flat immediately. Which we are, so I'm happy to make the gesture (and it would be a nice excuse to spend all afternoon playing with one of those mythical CHF1000 notes!) - just want to be sure it won't backfire and make us look ignorant or unclassy. What do you reckon? | | | | | Send me the chash and I will see what I can do for you |
