I believe that you have no idea of what you are talking about.

no need for mieterverband at all at this point.

- there is a joint liability of tenants if all flatmates signed the contract.
- it is not the fault of the landlord if one leaves. he can (and surely will) demand the full rent.
- the other tenant(s) have to pay their part(s) and the part from the one who left.

advice:
- inform the landlord of the situation. talk to him and explain the situation (often better than running first to mieterverband).
- search for a new flatmate.
- if unsure, demand a deposit from the "new" one.
and
- try to find the one who left and sue him (if he does not react/pay).

Read me again, I point out the Mieterverband when I didn't picked up the fact that his flatmate left the country, which I realised after and said so.

To denigrate the use of their service is a proof that he has no idea what this organisation is for. To implied that it is profitable for me is just plain stupid. And beside, the guy is a big boy, he can defend himself without you groaning here and there for no reason.

and in parallel contact your landlord as advised above.

do you know "him"? do you know where "he" was born, how long "he" is already tenant in switzerland? how many contracts "he" has signed as a tenant in "his" life? if "he" was or is member of mieterverband?

Go to the landlord and ask him to change the rental agreement on your own name only.
Explain the situation to him.

By the way, every single service at Mieterverband is liable to pay costs if you are not a member and their webpage is only in german as far as i am informed correctly.

Becoming a member gives you access to lawyers advices right away, and the membership fee is very low and is good for one year. It did save our butt very well. But apparently, it won't help him if the guy left the country. So better to find a new flatmate or move into a new appartment.

The Mieterverband not only provide advice regarding the relationship between renter and landlord but also situations like the OP is in.

Yes, the can give you advice. But if you need them to sue someone, go to court or write angry official letters then you need to have been a member for a certain amount of time first.
