Working In Basel, living in..?

Hi All,

I'm hoping for some suggestions of where to live in either Aargau or Basel-Landschaft that is within 30 mins commute (public transport) to Basel main station.

It's difficult to gauge travel times via google maps and streetview is limited so I can't really tell what an area is like.

From other posts, it sounds as though Pratteln is a little industrial and can be a bit dodgy, is that correct? Any suggestions on towns/areas are greatly appreciated (we are flexible and don't mind if it's urban or "rural").

Thanks

It may be difficult to judge the times from Google maps, but rest assured, the Swiss public transportation runs like a Swiss clock and it's easy to work out the travel time between two places by public transportation very easily.

Here are the timetables for all the busses and trams in Basel, so you can work out which stations are within a 30-minute radius from Basel SBB:

http://www.bvb.ch/fp_haltestellenfahrplan_n.htm

Here's a tram map showing all the stations:

There are plenty of threads on here about where to live in/near Basel. Use the Search box to find out more.

Voila! Now you've got everything you need to spend a Sunday afternoon working out where to live near Basel.

Incidentally, if you're working near Basel SBB and are open to commuting by train rather than bus/tram, your options open even wider. Full timetables for the train service are available at www.sbb.ch

Here's an older thread about Pratteln: What's wrong with Pratteln?

For other advice about areas to live, please see my response at: Potential move to Basel from UK

It is quite a big area you can look at if you have 30 min travel time as limit to the main station.

I find it sometimes easier to use the map on http://map.search.ch to determine travel time - since I don't know always where the closest tram or bus stop is. On the map you can see the bus stop and type in where you wanna go from there - it links up to bvb or sbb search after that.

Consider BL - Liestal and Sissach

Follow the SBB map, and look at the timetables.

Half an hour would take you to Delemont to the southwest, Olten to the southeast, and Frick to the East. There is also an express train to Zofingen that takes half an hour.
