Locksmith in Baden/Turgi for Postbox key

A recent tradegdy wherein my flatmate passed away two weeks ago has left me with a problem. I was just staying in his flat as a guest. The landlord knows this so that is not an issue. The problem is that when he passed away, he passed away in Norway and his effects and remains are missing.

That includes the postbox key which I will now have to replace as the landlord does not have a spare.

Can anybody let me know what the best way forward is here and what sort of sort of potential costs are involved?

Thanks.

Re: Locksmith in Baden/Turgi for Postbox key

In my place, it costs CHF120 to have a simple postbox key replaced, with authorisation from the landlord. An apartment key OTOH, costs approximately CHF250 to replace.

Stolen KABA key

Key Cutting

Swiss keys and their security level

Lost house key, what to do

You might want to see if there is a number engraved on the cylinder of the lock. If there is and if you can see which company made the post box (check for a sticker - you might have to ask another tenant to open their box as the sticker is sometimes on the inside of the door), you could call the company and as for a new key.

Well I think you have more than one problem, as it sounds like your name is not on the lease and you do not have any authority to deal with a mailbox lock. The landlord should take care of this. Who is paying the rent now?

There is no rent being paid as my flatmate had canceled the lease before he passed away. We were due to move out at the end of March anyway, now I would like to resolve this mailbox issue. I spoke to the landlord who had agreed that I could stay in the place until the end of the month but he said that I should take care of the mailbox issue.

Your landlord sounds rather lazy, since the apartment is being returned to him at the end of this month. Call Peterhans in Wettingen, Mr. Tommer is the lock specialist, tell them what you need, he will take care of the problem. By the way, a new mailbox lock always comes with 2 keys. In the meantime, to retrieve the mail a pair of tongs should come in handy.
