housing/neighborhoods

Hi, I may be moving to Basel in the next few months from manhattan. Does anyone have any advice on the areas of St Alban, Gundeldingen, or the area around Schutzenhaus park? we have a 2 year old daughter so we want to be near parks but we also want to be w/in a close proximity of the center of town. Also, we are interested in meeting a variety of people but would also like to know if there is a particular place where americans or expats live.
