increase of the deposit with new owner-allowed ?

The new owner of the building wants to change the rental deposit i.e increase the amount I should pay by 1 months as he wants to bring it in line with the other tenants. Since I had negotiated with the earlier owner for a reduced deposit, the new owner wants to change this-is this legal ?

I would think he can do this only for new tenants but my old contract should still hold when the owner (Verwaltung) changes. No clue about the rules, will clarify with MV but if anyone has gone through a change of owner/verwaltung, do provide any input.

Just to follow up, the Mieterverband said that any increase of deposit is not necessary and that the owner was trying to rip off. Sent a letter to the owner. Have not heard back so far.

im pretty sure
you and the new owner must adhere to the contract. the deposit about is in the contract and therefor thats all that is needed. the contract is a legal document and changes must be approved by you and the owner.
