help with finding sublets

hi everyone,
im new and will be moving out to zurich in may....i wanted to pick your brains since im a little confused about what to do.
im wondering since im not sure what area of zurich i want to live in, if i should sublet for a couple months first? and how easy is it to find sublets...i have been searching on the web and there are like 5, weird! i thought there would be more
what areas would any of you recommend i look at....im 30, female, but after living and working in london, nyc and paris, i no longer really need a heavy go go go party kinda lifestyle and would like to slow down a bit....so being dead center isn't a priority...and work is about 40 mins outside zurich
would 2 rooms = 1 bedroom and living room? also what is considered .5 of a room
thanks so much,
b

Re: help with finding sublets

Hi Barbarella

Check out this site: www.ums.ch

This is where lots of people sublet their flats for a fixed period of time whilst they go on long holidays / sabbaticals. The down side is that you'll have to pay a commission. Alternatively, business apartments are a good alternative - not cheap though. Negotiate with your company in subsidising the costs.

Check out this thread about places to live within Zone 10 (zurich city):
http://www.englishforum.ch/housing-g...rich-city.html

If you want to live outside zone 10, it depends on where your new work place is going to be. But most single people I know live within Zone 10.

This is how rooms are counted in Switzerland:
How are rooms/pieces counted in home adverts?

If its just one bedroom you are after, 2.5 zimmers are what you are after. 3.5 zimmers are 2 bedrooms, 4.5 zimmers = 3 bedrooms etc etc etc.

Good luck in your search and welcome in advance.

Re: help with finding sublets

I would highly recommend http://wgzimmer.ch/
warning: but only if you are willing to share with other people (mostly students).... because most of the adverts are for rooms in shared apartments.

You can find people subletting/letting for a short period as well... just choose "Zurich Stad" as your search criteria... well I'm pretty sure you can figure it out.
