New Road Announcement

Hi fellow black sheep, and white ones (I'm not racist)

just annuced this week are plans to build a bypass road for my village. The new road will pass about 20m from my house. Very upset about this.

I stress it is a plan right now, and we are of course opposing the plan - but still upsetting. As we live a relatively high tax area, the main reason for living where we do is for the peace and quiet. Even worse, there is no compensation from the government should the value of the house drop - which I rather fear it will.

Has such affected anyone else out there? be very happy to hear yout thoughts and experiences.

cheers

Buzby

Re: New Road Announcement

I don't have any advice for you, but as we are considering Embrach for a move, I am wondering where the road is planned to go?

Re: New Road Announcement

Hi Embrach is a great place (at the moment). Not much going on there - but that's kind of the point.

We live along Chüngstrasse. The road will be along side Chungstrasse, so there will be Oberdorfstr -field - road boarding Chüngstrasse.

More information on this topic from my Neighbour has just come to light.

This was actaully planned 10 years ago and then cancelled. He is of the opinion this will happen again. The time frame for the road is 20-30 yeas in any case. Also, Zurich is relatively short on cash to fund road projects, and this will be very low on the priority list.

Re: New Road Announcement

Are you sure the property prices will go down? When the A4 opened near to us the prices went up. Most by-passes next to houses are well screened to prevent noise & to hide the traffic.

Re: New Road Announcement

Hi,

good point, and no I am not sure. I know I would not like to live so close to the road. Perhaps I should not tarnish with my own brush. I am quite sure the houses along the road being bypassed would indeed grow in value. But I don't care about them. Anyhow, with a 20-30 year window, I am far less stressed about it now.

What does it stand for? Google does not bring back any results that make sense.

Someone who is pro-something - as long as the "cost" don't impact them individually. Classic examples are those who would like village bypasses - as long as they don't go through their own gardens.

Re: New Road Announcement

Yes I guess I could be guilty of this. However in my defence, the alternative in this case is a road direct from the highway bwteen the airport and bulach going through a tunnel.

This makes much more sense

1. a lot of the traffic goes to embraport from the airport or from the German border - indeed it the noise and hold-ups from these trucks in particular that the bypass is touted

2. the bypass past my house does not relieve the congestion at the beginning of the road in Kloten.

3. The more direct route does not upset so many houses

But it is more expensive.

Interesting, as we had thought of viewing one house which is directly on Chüngstrasse.

We live currently in the Berner Seeland, so quiet and "nothing happening" is actually a good thing for us, if it means access to green spaces. However, we would like a bit more access to shops than we currently have. It seems Embrach strikes quite a nice balance.

Well I recommend checking it out - it's a very nice area, really. My swiss neighbours are largely unconcerned about this announcement, too far in the future and pretty unlikely. Also, they are largely the "movers and shakers" in the Gemeinde, and I am sure this helps
