Bedroom Furniture Tips

Hi you all!

My wife and I have been living under pretty precarious financial circumstances for quite a few years now, but things are finally starting to look up. We'll be moving to new housing, and the Missus would like a nice bedroom - clean, modern lines and lots of wood. We can spend something in the 3,500 - 4,000 Fr. range. Second hand is an option.

What kind of tips would you guys give us? Obviously, there's IKEA, Pfister and the like. I've also been combing through ebay.ch, and there seem to be some German companies that make some pretty nice looking offers on nice-looking new material with decent shipping prices to Switzerland.

I'm kind of turned off an ricardo - a few years back it seemed to have lots of good deals - people selling nice furniture so they could move or upgrade. Now it seems to be Swiss, so-so companies selling their stuff at completely normal prices. That's been the trend in electronics stuff and furniture looks about the same.

I'm even wondering - what with the weak dollar - whether I should look off-shore. No idea whether this can work - shipping costs may have gone up and mattress sizes may be completely different. But I'd look into it if it were worth it.

The bottom line is, I like getting good quality for our money - and I don't really know where to start. Any tips?

Mike

Hi Mike,

We've been in your situation not so long ago. Good bedroom furniture is definitely an investment and if you're buying it for a long term, it's worth it.
After checking evth in CH, we went to Germany http://www.moebelmarkt-dogern.de/ and were pleasantly surprised! Excellent choice, great customer service and ... the shipping cost to CH is virtually 0 since by subtracting the German tax and then adding the Swiss one, you end up saving money! Another plus: you pay 30% right away and the rest upon delivery in 6 weeks. Needless to say the furniture is assembled for you.

Good luck with your furniture hunt!

Re: Bedroom Furniture Tips

ps. Just remembered: we got a voucher from them that's to be used on Wednesday, April 20th.
Save 50 if you spend 500, 350 off 2000 and 750 off 5000.
Since we aren't planning on buying anything for the moment, I'd gladly post it to you.
PM me your address if interested. Cheers

Hey - Thanks!

That looks promising, and I might just take you up on the coupon!

I take it you travelled up to Dogern to see the wares first hand?

Sure! No problem. Just send me the address.
Yup, travelled there to check evth out and made a purchase on the same day.
The website is just a mere representation of what they actually have (for all pockets).
There's a Lidl and an Aldi nearby, so you can also stock up on German goodies.
