Buying some curtains

Hi all.

Couple of questions within 1 thread if people would kind enough to answer.

Having spent what seems like an eternity looking for somewhere to live, me and my girlfriend are finally doing the easier things of moving, like sorting furnishing out now, but have come across an issue with curtains.

1) Each of the 17/18 properties we viewed seemed to be of exactly the same height approx 8ft in olde English measurements (2.4mts for our continental neighbours). Is this about right for most modern buildings (ie anything built since approx 1970's onwards)?

2) In the same properties we viewed, nearly all the rooms in all the properties had a 2 - track curtain rail fixed to the ceiling immediately next to the windows that allows a set of what I would call "nets" (closest to the window) to be hung on the firs track, then a set of curtains on the 2nd track. Is this standard in properties in CH? and therefore can thex be bought from places like Ikea or the Migros Home eg in Zugerland, or do they have to be made up?

Thanks in advance.

Alex.

Re: Buying some curtains

Easy answer, yes, you can get plenty of 'standard' curtain options at Ikea, Manor, Coop City, etc...

Do a quick search on the forum for 'curtains' - you will find plenty of threads (if you can excuse the pun) to meet your requirements...

Re: Buying some curtains

2.4m and 2.5 are common ceiling heights for modern buildings here. Ours have a strip of wood that is a bit lower that the curtain tracks are installed into.

Micasa have ready mades at 2.45 long. The ones I bought on Saturday in Zugerland for our new room came with iron-on strips to shorten them, but they were the perfect length for us.

I have lots of full-length windows and my ready made curtains cost a small fortune. My son's bedroom has over 5m of windows I wish I knew that Micasa stocked them in the length I needed back when I had those made.

Re: Buying some curtains

IKEA sell cheap curtains. You might have to cut the loops off at the top and shorten them.
