How was this experience for you? Do you have some tips for me? Should I review my searching criteria?

Thank you very much for your advices!

Re: apartament

Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried searching the EF for available properties that match your stated criteria? It's not clear from your post if your 3 months of looking and getting nowhere also includes this forum, hence my asking.

If not, then take a look at the highly active Adverts for property thread.

I think your apartment requirements are fine for the price and travel distance from Zurich (I assume by train) that you state. It seems you are flexible regarding location and which also widens up opportunities for you.

Have you had a look at the List of sites for searching apartments, housing and serviced apartments thread on the forum for ideas?

Sometimes the search can get frustrating but perserverance is key.

Good luck.

Re: Apartment - where/how do I find one?

Dont despair. Countless number of expats have been in your shoes and found places in the end. Check out these threads for ideas/tips - there are lots of similar ones if you do a search on the forum.

Probably the key take-away is speed in getting the correct documents to the agent/landlord. alternatively, relook at your search areas. Your budget might be the same as many others in Zürich. You might get more bang for buck with regards to space in other areas outside the city even if it means a longer commute.

Good luck!

Re: Apartment - where/how do I find one?

Yes... it is hard.

Some people spend years looking for a place... seriously.

I can only say that we have all been through it in one way or another. This is probably the hardest part of settling down in Switzerland (after finding a job, of course).

I have some links and tips if you are looking for a place in Geneva but I suppose that would make your round trip rather long.

Re: Apartment - where/how do I find one?

this ones still available

apartments are easy to find if you're flexible, but if you have decided that you want to live on the lake and pay 1000chf for a 6 room apartment with a pool then you're going to be out of luck.

Re: Apartment - where/how do I find one?

I'm also having trouble finding an apartment. The problem im having is cost. Ideally I would find a 1 BR apartment within cycling distance of Stadelhofen, and I'm pretty flexible in terms of standards, but there seems to be very little available.

I'm also open to the idea of a flatshare. Any advice on where to look?

If you are looking for a flatshare, there are student sites like this and this. Also, asking your company is not a bad idea.
