Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

I'd like to ask if any of you had a possibility to reside in Novartis temporary apartments? I've been told that they offer some of them.
What's the location? Any experience to share with us?

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

Location & quality can vary greatly depending on what's available at the time that you need it, we were told they did not allow pets in any temporary appartments.

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

I agree with Nat it really depends on luck (meaning on availability) there are a few buildings scattered close to the campus. I stayed in one pretty close to Kannenfeldplatz and had to leave early because there were cockroaches flying into my appartment when I complained they said they were only small roaches so could not do anything about them as they are not pests...no comment

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

I stayed in one when I first arrived near Zoo Bachletten. I know they also have several apartments down Mittlere Strasse which is a nice location.

The apartment I had was very nice and I stayed there for three months. The landlord was excellent and obviously as he was used to newbies was always on hand to help me out.

Did you tell them, that you don't need any "pets"?

There are several different locations, so no way of telling where you´ll end up. Depends on what is free (and to some extend also on whether you bring family along, what´s your level etc).

I have stayed in 2 different temporary locations with Novartis.

Some years back I spent 1 year in the apartments on Hebelstrasse 119. There are different size apartments there. THe apartments are OK for temporary placing - there was no cleaning included. Location is quiet, but only 4 mins from main campus and 4 mins from city center (opposite directions). Everything was in walking distance, but there are also bus and trams nearby. Real easy and fast access to airport as well.

Earlier this year I was at Schorenweg 40, which is behind the German trainstation (Badisher Bahnhof). It is a much more isolated location. Only 1 bus there - but walking distance to Badisher Bahnhof, where there are several busses and trams. It is much further from Novartis Campus and city center - but realistically, nothing is really far in Baselstadt.....
Cleaning was included, although kinda sporadilly - I never had any clue when they were coming
I was meant to be at this location for 3 months, but found my permanent apartment really fast and moved already after 3 weeks.... I was extremely pleased to be leaving!

There are many other locations that Novartis uses - best is to ask your relocation agent for an address - although my experience is that the address is provided very close to the moving date - some times the same week as the move.

Good luck with your move - if you have any questions about the above, you are more than welcome to send me a private message.

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

I stayed in one apartment for 3 months when I first arrived and it was ok.
It was quite central and close to the campus.
Inside it was not beautiful or modernly decorated but it was confortable.

The kind of apartment also varies if the person is single or has a family.

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

i had a nice one in klein basel with a river view. they are fine for temp. accom.

the same building also had 'dorm' facilities with shared showers/kitchen.

however, they were expensive. i think mine was just over 3000chf per month - so not really somewhere where you would want to stay long term.

i think the dorms are cheap though.

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

Hi Folks

Anyone have the following happen to them with regards to temporary apartments when starting:

As the accommodations are currently at full occupancy, the apartment will be available at a later date (4 days later) and so it will not yet be cleaned and ready on your arrival date . An apart-hotel will be arranged for you.

Anyone have any experience of this - if its a hotel its going to work out expensive with regards to food etc. or perhaps its akin to an apartment which maybe fine - there seems to be a large influx of new starters at the moment and temporary apartments are in short supply.

Any advice or in sights

Cheers

Hello, I will move to Basel for work very soon.
I was offered an accommodation in Binningen, does anybody know how this area is?

I'm afraid that is far from almost everything! Thanks

Re: Novartis temporary apartments in Basel

It's a very nice area, lots of trees, close to the center of town with a decent tram connection. Very popular with the expat crowd.

More quiet and family-oriented than central Basel.

I'd live there very happily.

Thank You Village! It's just that I was a bit afraid to be "far from everything", and especially from my work.

It's Switzerland. There's no such thing as "far"

It will take you some 10-20mins by tram to get to the university, 30-40mins by foot, 5-10mins or so by car. You won't even notice that you're not living in the city - Basel and Binningen (along with several other towns and villages) are literally next to each other, with no visible border.

It's a quieter, somewhat more residential area, green, a bit more family-oriented.
