Re: Refrigerator is not very cold

The OP is American so probably doesn't even know there is a temperature scale apart from Fahrenheit.

Re: Refrigerator is not very cold

Normally instruction leaflets are left in the flat for tenants. Above advice is obviously correct- but it seems there is also a 'super' option further to the left- this is possibly an extra cold option?

This is normally used when you fill your fridge with lots of stuff from the shops, for example, and you want to cool it all quickly. Pressing the 'Super' button cools the fridge faster for a pre-set time period and then reverts to the normal setting.

Re: Refrigerator is not very cold

Almost all fridges in continental Europe have controls working the way the OP's boss said, i.e. the higher the figure, the lower the temperature, the figures just representing an imaginary "cooling power." However, as the photo of the control very clearly shows, this particular appliance is an exception in that the setting is in centigrades, and since centigrades above freezing are positive figures, "8" means higher temperature than "2." Put it to 4 and wait. It does take a while.

With digital electronics taking over just about every aspect of life, I think sooner or later this kind of control will become the norm.

One thing I've learnt in life is 90% of what other people tell you is utter nonsense.
That sounds nonsense!

Ohhhhhhhhhh.

Anyway, put it on "4". 2 is too cold.

...(Had you just moved in, as in that afternoon? If so it doesn't surprise me that drinks wouldn't be completely cold yet. My trick is to pop them in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.)..
But don't forget about them. Or the glass could shatter - especially sparkling wines, beers.

I have a Siemens fridge with the same control. It works fine for us at 5°C.
