Which heating to install?

I am in the process of buying a house French side of the border (Basel) ....100m sq pretty standard 3 beds, living, dining and kitchen. Its wood flooring and was previously oil fuelled heating which involves a large tank in the garden, a watering can and topping up oil burners in each room, although they have been taken by the previous tenants.

There apparently is a gas main running along the street, so to install this would be relatively easy, so I'm told. But is electricity cheaper than gas in France.....I have no idea.

I currently pay for electric heating in my modern rented house....and it's cost me a small fortune.....I would estimate probably 1500 euros since April last year. Is gas better? Expensive to install? Any experts out there?

Re: Which heating to install?

Hi there, gas is generally considered cheaper & more effecient for heating a house but first i would consult the local gas provider for a fixed price to connect up to your house. I would personally steer away from oil for a variety of reasons ie. High prices, Boiler noise, unwanted tank in garden etc, higher service & repair costs.etc etc
Good luck

Wood pellets...

Probably going to be one of the most ecological ways to heat homes in the near future...

We have electricity here. When it goes, I'll seriously think about replacing it with one of these...
