Has anyone imported plants?

Hi,

We have to plant a hedge. It's going to take at least 75 plants. We've decided on beech.

Here's the problem: we found them in Switzerland at CHF 43 each.

In the UK, they're about 5 Pounds each. Even in Germany they're Euro 19 each, with delivery.

Has anyone imported plants? Is it possible?

Thanks

Yes, no problem at all between France or UK. You are still stuck with your maximum E150 per person per day but as you are right on the border, not problem, just go several times. Or get nursery in France to deduct TVA and give you the necessary paperwork, and declare at Swiss border, pay Swiss TVA. Our large cottage garden here is full of plants brought over from our garden in the UK + plants bought at nurseries in nearby France (a bit further down the Jura than you).

Re: Has anyone imported plants?

there are few plants you can't bring into CH. Cotoneaster is one (due to some sort of canker), buddlia, and a few others. But beech is no prob.
Copper beech looks really nice too.

At this time of the year, you will have to buy/plant pot grown plants. Enquire when you visit the pépinière, as it might be much cheaper to wait till the autumn to get bare root plants. Being in Arzier, you'd have to plant by the end of October at the latest.
French Google for pépinnières usually much cheaper than GardenCentres
