How to pay for my apartment?

Decided on an apartment, and the landlord barely speaks english so I am having trouble communicating from him. My bank accounts are in the U.S. How do people normally get the money? I'm moving in tomorrow, and need 2000 CHF, which I know I cant get from an atm.

Re: How to pay for my apartment?

Perhaps speaking to your US bank / card issuer might allow an ad hoc cash withdrawal over 2 days ?

Re: How to pay for my apartment?

Cant you just print off a Google translate of "May I please have your bank details so I can wire the money straight to your account ?" and show it to your landlord ?

Re: How to pay for my apartment?

Did you not have to communicate with your Landlord before ie about viewing, signing the contract etc, etc or did someone else do all that on your behalf?

Do you have any friends, family or colleagues who speak German/Swiss German (assuming that's his language) that could speak to him for you?

Re: How to pay for my apartment?

How strange. Most landlords won't give you the keys until you have paid them copious amounts of francs in deposits and first months rents etc.

Is it a company or an individual who is the landlord? If it is a company, they should give you an invoice which you take to the post office and pay some days later.

"You can pay in the middle of the month" is what I was told when I moved in to my apartment. "There's no rush".

Another option would be to take your US bank Visa/MC debit card into your Swiss bank and ask for their assistance affecting a cash withdrawal. This is how people got cash advances on their credit cards before the advent of ATMs.
