Cleaner payment

We are in the process of hiring a cleaner.

We have signed papers confirming we are employing her, but I have been told by a friend that at the end of the tax year we are required to pay 7% of her total wage to her pension. Is that right?

Do I need to go to my geminde and register myself as her employer? Also if I decide to fire her, how much notice do I need to give her?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Cleaner payment

There have been many abuses of cleaners. There is now a minimum wage of I think CHF 20 per hour.

You need to go to the AHV office in Meilen and open an account for her AHV pension, and pay into it regularly.

You also need to buy employer's insurance against workers' accidents.

There is a minimum notice period here, it depends on how long the employee has worked.

Maybe you can write your introduction as required when signing up to EF?

Oh Sh*t, I didn't know that. Is it the same for my chauffeur and helicopter pilot? What about the crew for my yacht? Do they all need paying? I thought throwing a few scraps of food now and then was enough.

AHV is not applicable if she earns less than about CHF 20K with you in a year.
