| | Nearly impossible to find a flat in Zürich city??
I'm going mad....I applied for so many flats in Zürich and 80% of the owners request that people must come and see the flat otherwise they won't get the registration form.
This is impossible for me because I got a 3 year young daugther and I'm living in St. Gallen (Rheintal).
I need urgent a flat because I will start a job on 1 July in Zürich (Sihlcity).
Any idea on how to get a flat there??? |

I bet you could find a mom willing to trade babysitting through the EF where you're located now. Or you could take your little one with you. The rental market is really intense in Zurich. The frustrating part is it's not a renter's market, so you've got no other choice but to go along with the agencies and landlords rental procedures. Good luck! And congrats on the new job!!

I am not sure if this is ging to be of much help BUT.
I moved here a few weeks ago and my company rented a small (I mean one bedroom, a bathroom and couple of hotplates tryingto be a kitchen in the entrance hall) and sublet it to me.
The good part is that it has one months notice period so I have now found a place near to work and I will be out of there at the end of June (possibly a few days before).
So the agent will be having a short let property becoming available in Kloten. Not ideal when yu have a child but it may give you some more looking time closer to Zurich.
Contact me if it would be of any help and I will ask my company for contact info on the agent.

You can take a serviced apartment like Swiss Star or Citi Apartments
(in Oerlikon) for a few weeks to settle down and then it would also be much convenient for you to keep the appointments with the agencies / landlords.
On finding apartments on rent, in Affoltern area (Mühlacker, Unteraffoltern) there are a lot new buildings which have come up in last one year or so and the agencies are giving it easily on rent...though it will be a bit away from your work location, Sihlcity.
Good Luck!!

Would you actually rent an apartment without looking at it? You do know that the contract is for at least one year right?
What you can do is apply without visiting it (yes, be sneaky about it) but 'if' you get the apartment you ask for a new visit telling them your partner wants to see it too for instance. They won't be happy if you don't take it and some places even try to make you pay for the inconvenience but I guess it is a reasonable risk.

The problem is they give out the applications and contact info at the visit, if you don't go you aren't in with a chance.
It's hard to find a place at short notice.
But ya never know-hope you have a streak of good luck.

I hope this might help you. I could go visit in your behalf. Im free tuesday and thursday almost at any time, please consider the visits not too late as i also have not one but 2 little boys. I will go, pick up the aplication and send it to you. I could tell you if it looks unacceptable etc.
Since there is 300 people going to every apointment they will never realize you didnt came.
If it works for you, pm and we can discuss further.
I have been looking for an apartment for almost a year and still nothing, our situation is more complicated, yours is just a matter to get the aplication form and if i can help it will be my pleasure

alternatively take a room in a short-term flat-share for 3 months so that you have time to visit the apartments.
Agree, 99.99% of flats are on homegate, but you more or less always have to physically visit.

Did you try http://immomailing.ch/ ? you need to pay to get the ads but these are usually not on homegate so few people see them and you would have more chances to get it :-)

This looks fantastic - thank you so much for the link. Howeve, I need to live in Zürich downtown otherwise the Swiss government doesn't support my daugthers nursery....
Otherwise I would move in immediately :-) | Quote: | | | | | Hi,

It takes 2.5 hours one way to reach Zürich HB. Then you expect me to visit 3-4 flats while having my toddler with me? And in the evening again 2.5 hours? And what will be the benefit? Meeting 50 other applicants? No thanks. That's not worth the trip. It's enough for me to see the google-location-map plus some pictures of the flat. I'm not really picky...I just need a flat. URGENT. | Quote: | | | | | Nope, sorry, I still can't see why you can't visit the flats? What am I missing here?

I tried www.wg-zimmer.ch but I got all negative responses because I got a 3 year old child. Nobody wants a child in a WG. | Quote: | | | | | alternatively take a room in a short-term flat-share for 3 months so that you have time to visit the apartments.
