Rent a house for a week or two

Hello. I am supposed to rent a house for my workers in august in Schafisheim ( near Lenzbur and Aarau ) 30 km from Zurych. Is it possible to rent a house or a big apartament for those people? Can you provide me a web site? Hotels cost a lot and I am able to pay ca. 1000 euro per week. I need 8 people, 8 beds.

Very difficult indeed to find such accomodation. Maybe you should contact the village of Schafisheim and ask them if any farmers have some cheap accomodation,

Re: Rent a house for a week or two

Speaking of scouts: I was actually about to send you this link as a scout house seems to be what you're looking for (at least for me it sounds like perfect match) as it's less expensive than a hotel, has at least 8 beds and be rented by the week...

Here is the link anyway http://www.pfadiheime.ch/

Re: Rent a house for a week or two

You might also check out Youth Hostels. I'm not sure if you can stay in one without everyone being a member of the organisation, but they might have addresses of other accomodation to which they send people when they themselves are fully booked.
Baden and Brugg are both quite near Schafisheim

Re: Rent a house for a week or two

Here there are many ski clubs, nature clubs, etc, that have chalets with small dorms, kitchen and showers to rent for groups- so that area should too.

The rule about Youth Hostels is that people must become members in their OWN country (=can't join once in a foreing country).

That's not really true at all: according to the HI website, you can either join in your home country (i.e. your country of residence, not citizenship) before you travel, or join at the hostel when you arrive.

Trouble is that ski clubs tend to have their houses in the mountains (and Schafisheim is not exactly in a ski area) and the houses belonging to the Naturfreunde (friends of nature) often seem to have theirs with a half hour or an hour's walk to get there.

But you are not talking about the same organisation as Odile. 'Youth Hostels Association' which we were talking about is not the same thing as 'Hostelling International'.

Re: Rent a house for a week or two

What you are looking for is called "Monteurzimmer" or "Monteurwohnung" in German. However, I have never heard of that in Switzerland.

I guess this is it. Whilst reading the answers the cheapest are Hostels but they are more for turists then workers.

Re: Rent a house for a week or two

1000 Euros a week is good money. I don't know anything near Schafsheim.
There might be something, 50km/50 minutes away near Zurich. Schafsheim is the right sort of area to get a good deal with a local farm.
