Rental Agents - To help me look for a place?

Wanted to stay in Horgen area (Mainly Adliswil, Wadenswil or Klichberg etc..).

I keep searching and searching, every time I call its been rented. I just want to give a realestate agent my area needs, apartment desire and then pay a small fee to find a place.

Sometimes I think they dont like me because I speak english :*(

Its just so hard, when you find a perfect place...BAM its rented.. Im like, this was posted a few days ago..

Any ideas?

Expensive - search on the forum for Agent, Agencies, Mata etc. and you'll find a lot more of such agencies for a min. 4 figure fee in CHF.

Plus a sign-up fee too, if I remember correctly. Not impressed with them at all, wanted to use their services when we first arrived but I wasnt happy handing over cash based on the initial treatment I've received.

How long have you been searching? I personally will recommend that you keep trying. Rather than handing over a wad of cash to a company, it can be spent on equipping the apartment. Yes good apartments go very quickly and its disheartening at times, to say the least, but just remember that you arent alone in this. Many expats have gone through the same frustrations and saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

A few tips you need to have on hand is to get all your documents ready (credit check, copy of your contract etc etc) and keep looking on homegate - twice a day.

If I am not wrong, homegate gets updated twice a day (once at noon and once in the evening - someone please correct me!). Be quick at calling and making appointments. Try to be the first to see the flat and hand in the correct documents if possible.

On the other hand, you might wish to reconsider your budget - if its in the same bracket as every other expat/Swiss, competition will be stiff, especially in the more popular places like Kilchberg. We realised this when we arrived in apartments crowded like the Lourve Museum and we decided to up it rather than hoping for Lady Luck to shine on us over 40 other applicants.

Finally, regroup and relook at your criteria and see if there is anything that you can be more flexible on. For example: the initial criteria of "MUST be near transportation and amenities" can be compromised by taking one extra bus if the property is suitable but further out etc. I was having a lot of trouble finding a good property in the area we wanted to live within our budget because two of my criteria were : MUST have view, MUST be near transportation. I only got one out of the 2.

Chin up and good luck

I'm not sure you are aware what you are looking for in CH, I've fixed that for you:

I keep searching and searching, every time I call its been rented. I just want to give a realestate agent my area needs, apartment desire and then pay a exorbitant fee to find a place.

BAM its rented.. Im like, this was posted a few hours ago..

Realistically, it could cost you a lot to have a relocation agent find you a place, that is why companies often include this to new recruits. Do you have such offers available from your firm? As others said, search the forum for relocation agents/services and look for one in your budget.
