Re: What neighborhoods are best for artists and musicians?
Zurich is not a city, it is essentially a small town. You could walk the length and breadth of it in no time at all.
As a result of this, there isn't really any one area brimming with muzo's drinking pastis and getting together on the restaurant-lined streets for improvised jazz sessions.
All the nut-jobs, strip clubs and hookers live on Langstrasse though, this might certainly be the most colourful part of the city to live in. Otherwise you might want to mingle with the more demure and sweeter-smelling folks in Seefeld, which is where the Opera house is.
The only classical musicians I have seen marauding on the streets on Zurich was in summer on the only main road, belting out a rather conformist rendition of The four seasons. Since this would be an unsuitable place to pitch tent (as the sinister services might pick you up at night and deposit you in Bern with the rest of the junkies) I'm not sure where you would prefer to live.
Zurich, unlike Seattle has no musical Boho Nirvana spilling its loving cup.
