Wood Eating insects

Did anyone have any experience of the following?

This summer we have found some insects have been eating the outside of our old wooden Chalet in VS . They are leaving bigger holes than woodworm - about 3-5mm across, with a pile of sawdust underneath

After first freaking out, I guess this is a pretty common problem for wooden chalets in this country (but that needs treating urgently)

We talked to Migros Home & Garden, they told us it could be "capricorne de maisons" and there is a good product to spray or paint on. Problem is the wood needs to be bare - our chalet is painted
