How furnished is furnished

Just moved from UK to Basel, and looking for an apartment. I was wondering what exactly one can expect to find in an unfurnished flat. Fridge? Cooker? Washing machine or laundry room in the building?

I've been told that in Germany, not too long ago, an unfurnished flat wouldn't even have a toilet. I hope Switzerland gives a little more than that.

Re: How furnished is furnished

Welcome!

Fridge? Most likely

Cooker? Most likely

Washing machine? Varies - guaranteed the agent will make a song and dance about it having one if it does

Laundry room in the building? More common.

One weird feature of life here is you usually bring your own light fittings i.e. expect to find wires protruding from the ceiling.

Toilets? Yes sir. Some you can even flush after 10 at night!

Good luck with your search.

Re: How furnished is furnished

I'm pretty sure that the term "unfurnished" here only means that the flat doesn't have furniture in it.

But as the poster above already stated, the flat WILL have appliances like a fridge, stove, etc. (Again, though, you will need to buy and install your own ceiling light fixtures, which is actually quite easy).
