Backing out of a rental contract

Has anyone ever tried backing out of a rental agreement before moving in? we've not signed a contract just yet however a few properties are popping up in the area which we'd like the view before we sign however the rental agent is pressuring us to sign and return within a day or so.

if we signed and then found a better apartment, is it too late or is there a "cooling off period" where we can back out?

thanks.

I like the "IF"... it's Switzerland you won't have so much opportunities!
Your "rental agent" might be pressuring you because they should be approx. 80 person waiting to sign for your flat...

You may be just charged an admin fee around 200-500CHF if you back out before signing. If you sign and back out and if they/you can't find another tenant, then you will/may be liable for the rental until the contract expires or another tenant is found.

Zurich yes if it's in a nice town and less than 2k. This place has been empty for months and they offered it to me there and then, no grovelling letter or anything

The next post answered my question, which was as I expected

Thanks
