CHEAP furniture stores - in Germany

Hi all - we've just moved to Zurich. Brought a lot of our own stuff with us, but just need fillers for the house. Almost all we buy, we'll only use for 1-2 years, and probably won't bring with us for the next move. So really looking for low quality / basic stuff that will do a short term job for us. Low price is key basically...

What we were looking for are:
- patio table, chairs, loungers
- spare bed
- wardrobe, presses, storage
- accessories - curtains, lamps, kettle etc....
- big food shop (if going to Germany, then we'd hit Aldi / Lidi and stock up a bit too I guess)

In Zurich we were looking in IKEA, conforama & jumbo. Reckon we're looking at about 1200 - 1500 CHF worth of stuff. Current plan is to rent a van from mobility and pick up this stuff.

Just looking to see if idea of renting a van and going to Germany might be a better idea. Know there is an IKEA in Freiburg, guess there is other stuff there too. But looking for other names of places.... I suppose in English / Irish terms talking like B&Q / Argos / Woodies etc. Places were stuff you buy you know isn't the winner, but will do the job!

Any tips be great, especially of places near the border.

Thanks
Graham

Sign up to ricardo.ch.
Full of cheap quality furniture.
Or, people sell their furniture also here on EF, sometimes they even give it away for free.

I'm not sure if you already bought your furniture but we went to Braun Moebel in Singen and they have a good and big choice. We just bought a dining room set: a vitrine, sideboard, table and 6 chair and it's real wood. It cost us 2500 Euro which is around 2800 francs. They will deliver it and put it together for free and the tax is only 150 CHF.
