Apartment Search: In or around Vevey

Hello Everyone ,

I am looking for a 2 bedroom (3 room) apartment in or around Vevey. Can anyone tell me the following:

1. How much should I expect to pay? I am hoping to spend around 1200 CHF.
2. How big is an apartment of size equal to 70 m2 compared to an aprtment in USA i.e., 1000 Sq ft or 700 sq ft etc
3. Which areas in/around vevey are more reasonably priced that the others? I don't mind commuting to work if its 10/15 minutes away (Nestle)
4. What are the things to look for when signing the lease?
5. What should I check/look for while checking the apartment?
6. The buildings in Switzerland are quite old and I am concerned that there will be too many issues. Is there an area where there is new development?
7. Is is better to check apartments directly (comaparis etc)
or through agents?

Thanks for helping

1. Your hopes are doomed. Expect 2000chf for 3 rooms (2 bedrooms).
2. ? convert the units?
3. Don't know. sorry
4. everything? Including the "etats des lieux" (checking the flat's condition, make sure to write every little scratches, etc...).^; reading all documents carefully,...
5.Everything meticulously- In particular the state of the "balcony cover thing" if available, any marks in wooden surfaces, any stains, any holes in the wall, etc...
6. Possibly true but it seems they adopted clever equipment inside such as central heating (lesser bills), etc...
7. Tenants VS Agencies VS private flat hunters:
it's better to look for EVERYTHING you can not afford to be picky.
Try to get nestlé or pay 2000chf for a private flat hunter, otherwise unless you are very luckly, you'll regret not having done that investment.
