| | Live in a caravan!
Not that I'm particulary going to do this, but has anyone moved to CH intending on living and working there, and started in a caravan??

Especially as their tent would have been washed away in the recent flood, had they still been there...

We had one guy who lived at the Pfäffikon (ZH) Badi for a year but he did go home to Germany at weekends. Mind you "he was so tight he could peel a orange in his pocket".

there was a show on TSR1 a few weeks ago about people in canton Vaud who lived in a campsite all year round. They actualy seemed very "normal" (not trashy or anything) and paid really low rent |

The only problem I can foresee is that for some things (permit, bank account, etc.) you might need to provide a fixed local mailing address, and I'm not sure that c/o the local campground will cut it. In terms of the day-to-day logistics of living in a camper van for weeks on end, if you're the type of person who's willing to give it a go, you're probably the type of person who can handle it. I know people from home who have lived in a tent through the Canadian winter to save money on rent (even at -20C!), so a caravan in Switzerland should be fine, as long as you have warm clothes/blankets.
Anybody know if you can rent a post box while living in a campground? That might help get around problem of having no address....

Haha I was wondering about this myself a while back. Brings back memories from the movie "Snatch" Mind you, you could probably save a load of cash this way...drawback is you can't really have friends over in such a cramped space. Besides, how are you going to connect to the internet? wireless?

HeHe!
Thanks for all your replies!!!
We've decided we're ganna go for it!
Just bought a caravan! :-)
Our budget allows us to stay in a caravan on a camp site for 6 months with money left to live comfy!.. (Not that we ideally wanna be in the caravan for 6 months.!)
Some camp sites WILL allow you to use their mailing address, and I even found one that would deliver it to your tent/camper for a small fee..
If all goes to plan, we leave the UK on the 31st.. Ganna stop off in Lux, and Stuttgart first, then head on down to Berne! :-) (unless anyone can recommend anywhere in particular thats good for camping and searching for jobs?!?!?!) |

Good luck - I'm sure it'll be much better than 22 years in a Travelodge http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/6988927.stm |

I think this calls for a blog of your exploits as you wend your way to your own personal HeidiLand ?

A little Pikey girl opens the caravan door & shouts "MUUUUM, HOW DO I PUT MY KNICKERS ON, AGAIN?"
Mum shouts back "HOW MANY MORE TIMES? YELLOW TO THE FRONT, BROWN TO THE BACK!"
