Building and Renovating

Having been through the somewhat painful and expensive experience of rebuilding in Switzerland, complete with the Swiss version of Mr Jobsworth and his friends, I would be happy to share the expereicnes that we had, good and bad, with anyone thinking of doing the same thing.

I can certainly recommend a couple of firms and at the same time recommend not using some others, but also thought it would be helpful if there were others who could share their experiences. Be wary, a good Swiss friend, who is a lawyer, was nearly made bankrupt during his re-build.

Re: Building and Renovating

Welcome to the forum. May I suggest you introduce yourself right here, Old Timers on EF love that so much

I have not done any rebuilding work in CH myself, but my GF is about to rebuild a bathroom so your experience is very much welcome. I am personally in shock about the prices. The very same spa-bath she can get in Germany for CHF 4200 is 7400 CHF for here - both excl. VAT

Re: Building and Renovating

Hi CLB

I was actually just wondering what the rules etc are about renovating apartments, etc. I know that the regie can charge you for holes in the wall where you've hung pictures, and stuff like that, and all the apartments we've seen have been freshly painted etc.

So what are the rules if, for example, I wanted to repaint a kitchen, or do something in the bathroom, or something like that? Do I have to get permission from the regie? Will they require it's put back the way it was when we leave?

Thanks!
Claire

Seems to be you can do what you want when it comes to painting, but it has to be returned to original when you leave.
