Interior wall paint not white enough!

I have typical Swiss bumpy wallpaper. Three years ago I decided to have my wall super white like photocopy paper. So I went to Coop DIY shop and bought ULTRA white wall paint. I painted the room and realized that the walls looked cream white and not white white like I wanted. Not a big deal so I just got on with life.

It's time to repaint my walls again so this time I want to get them white like I wanted them 3 years ago.

Just to demonstrate what I mean. Coop ULTRA white looked closer to the yellow teeth image and not the sparkling white I was after. What should I be looking for to get Colgate white wall paint? I want to apply one coat only.

Re: Interior wall paint not white enough!

Try changing your lighting/light globes and see if that makes a difference. I think matt paint will always look 'cream' - that 'whiter than white' colour is more achieved with back-lit glass or glossy paint - it needs to reflect the light to produce 'bright white'.... and I wouldn't recommend enameling your walls....

I understand what you are saying and light can make or break the colour but I remember seeing a review of white wall paints on Swiss TV few years ago and they mentioned something about it. Basically there is a white pigment thing (don't remember the name) that gives it the pure whiteness. It's expensive so in normal white paint they are miserly about the quantity of "the pigment thing" they use. They mentioned to check for the % on the label.

I don't know any more what to look for nor which white paint got the highest 5 star rating

I'm not sure on what paint to recommend, better visiting a Hornbach, MigrosBrico paint section and discuss with them.

However, I think you will need at least 2 coats. When going from a darker shade to a lighter one, you typcially need to 2 or more coats.

The superstore paint that you buy is shite, you need to buy it from a proper paint shop (of which there are several in Zurich) i always use the one on Forchstr opposite the post office (Kruezplatz) kreis 7.
Its a little more expensive but is a lot better, just ask for brilliant white.
While you are there invest in a decent roller, and you will finish the job twice as quick as with a coop roller.
Or failing that ask me for a quote and i will come and do it for you!
