Schwyz: English Speaking Plumber Needed - Washing Machine Preperations

Need to prepare my flat for a washing machine and dryer (two in one), any one with suggestions?

Should I buy the machine first then get the plumbing/wiring done?

Or get the plumbing done, then buy it and have Fust deliver/install?

Do you recommend two in one machines?

firstly 2-in-1 machines are usually crap.

also, what plumbing work needs to be done? if simply the plugging in then this is normally easy to do yourself.

if you need to run water/electricity somewhere, i think it would make sense to have the machine there beforehand so that the plumber can fit it.

Re: Schwyz: English Speaking Plumber Needed - Washing Machine Preperations

If you buy from Fust, they can arrange to have the machine installed upon delivery. This is often the simplest thing to do, as coordinating delivery and plumber can be a royal pain. The folks at Fust are pretty good at assessing what you are likely to need for installation. We have bought 2 washers and a dryer from them, each time had the guy who delivered the machine install it. However, we were already set up with the basics - all that was needed was a hook-up to the existing line.

You mentioned a flat - are you the owner? If not, have you spoken to your landlord - he/she may have a preferred plumber (and you'll need his permission to install a machine). If you own, is there a building manager? He/she will likely have suggestions for you.

Failing that, these folks in Altendorf did the plumbing work in our house when we renovated:

Erich Huser AG

We always spoke in German, but if you speak 'plumber-ese' in any language you will get on fine.

I agree with Phil - don't get the 2-in-1. Spawn of the devil, they are.

Re: Schwyz: English Speaking Plumber Needed - Washing Machine Preperations

Thanks all!

I will stay away from the 2 in 1, the Guy at Fust told me that they take hours to go through one cycle.

I will go for a 6 or 7kg washing machine A+ rating, and a B Dryer.. there is a combo set at Fust now for 1800 CHF. I will speak to the land lord since I am renting, he is ok with the machine in there, but I will ask for his recommendation before hiring a plumber.

Any advise on warranty, it comes with a 2 year warranty etc..

I will buy the machines first then have the plumber come and wire the pipes (the flat never had a machine in it).

Re: Schwyz: English Speaking Plumber Needed - Washing Machine Preperations

We have just agreed to buy from a small guy (opposite the Landi in Schanis). A Sibir machine - 7KG, A+ etc etc etc - the red one in the picture on his website

Not cheap - but he will deliver and install on a Saturday

He even came out last Saturday and checked the places we had thought of having the machine - before finally advising us the best place is back in the cellar (next to the workshop ).

Good service, on a Saturday - what is happening to Switzerland

Linky to his website - his English isn't really very good (should have mentioned that) - but the service is first class. I know which is more important to me

I'm not a fan of those warranty extensions that Fust offers - IME, quite expensive, you pay an extra couple hundred per year for ever diminishing coverage. The contracts are, like everything in CH, auto renewing - rather a pain. You often find that you pay more for the warranty extension that you would do for standard repair service.

I'm pretty hard on washing CH machines - the ones I've bought here have lasted ca.3-4 years (as opposed to my trusty Maytag in the US: 20 years and still going strong), but I still just go with the usual warranty.
