Rant: Tile floors are soooo cold

Before parkett became popular and but after carpets were dismissed, the Swiss chose tiles to put in their living room.

Well, the tiles still look perfect but in weather like this, they are sooooo cold.

Moral of the story: Just because it lasts 100 years, it doesn't always make it cozy.

And yes, I'm wearing socks, crocks and am contemplating on getting my thermal underwear out of storage.

Yep, I know what you mean. Tiles can get pretty cold.
Not to break any rules or anything...but can't you just turn the heating on a wee bit ?

Re: Rant: Tile floors are soooo cold

I love the floor heating in our apartment
A pity that it doesn't work in summer so that the floors are more pleasant to walk on in winter than summer

Re: Rant: Tile floors are soooo cold

I've moved this to Housing in General as it might be important for someone building/renovating their house. Tiles are super if the weather is hot as washing them actually cools down the air in the room but at the moment this isn't the problem! We have tiles in the entrance hall which is brilliant (easy to clean) but unless you have underfloor heating which can be switched on in the summer (please forgive this inaccurate use of the word) it can really be quite chilly underfoot in the living/dining area.

Re: Rant: Tile floors are soooo cold

We could never put on our heating even if it was freezing in summer.
Out of our control, like in most rented accomodation.

Re: Rant: Tile floors are soooo cold

this is the first time we have lived somewhere with tiled floors - and the first time we have broken so many dishes in such a short space of time

Hopefully we will all get used to them, and it is certainly easy to clean up the dog hairs, which is a big compensation!
