Moving to Zug, temporary housing before i find apartment?

Hi,

I am moving to Zug in just under 4 weeks and am not sure if i will be able to find an apartment before i acutally move there. Most likely because i would like to look at the apartment before i decide.

Can anyone recommend any temporary housing which is not to expensive until i can find an apartment?

Thanks!

Welcome!

First of all, housing is always expensive here and there is hardly any available. I just read from Zuger Presse that currently 0,28% of the appartments are vacant, meaning 132 in the whole Canton!

The situation is not that bad though. Try looking from the Cantons around as well. Schwyz for example is near and also tax attractive.

Back to your original question, I have had friends staying at various hotels for longer periods as well. You can try to negotiate a weekly or so price. The Ibis hotel in Baar is "cheap" by swiss standards.

I am sure you will find a place to stay! Good luck!

Re: Moving to Zug, temporary housing before i find apartment?

When I moved here I stayed at the Lindenhof Bar & Grill in Cham, http://www.lindenhofgrill.ch/ , really nice place although the restaurant downstairs is closed all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Very nice place, nice people, cheapest for miles around and he'll do you a fortnightly / monthly bulk discount. The chap who runs it is called Kurt, and he and the head waiter speak excellent English.

As regards finding a place when you get here, my best advice is if you speak German then pick up a copy of the Amtsblatt (basically like a A5 free ads) which comes out every week with lots of ads for apartments in, as well as looking at www.immozug.ch which has new ads that come out every Friday - the first week I was here, I took one Friday morning to call round as many of these as I could, went to 3 viewings and got my flat within a week, so it's possible to get a place without too many problems.

Zug itself is quite expensive for accomodation, but if you look at nearby towns such as Baar, Cham, Inwil etc then you will find some really nice places at quite reasonable prices - my place is in Baar which is 2 minutes by train from Zug centre, or 5 minutes by bus, very regular transport links, and I got a 3.5 room apartment with a parking space, cellar and balcony for the same price as a small 1 room studio apartment in Zug.
