My family and I just arrived in Basel and being in a new place can be daunting. I am therefore looking for a relocation assistant that could help us find an apartment that would be suitable for our needs. I have 2 kids, 16 months and 4 1/2years old. We want to live in a family-friendly home where the kids can run around in a nearby park. If anyone can suggest a relocation assistant, I would really appreciate it.

As you and your family seem to be here already, I'm not sure if Relocation Agent is what you are really looking for.

There are a lot of Housing Sites in the Sticky at the top of the Ads for Property Sub-Forum and quite a few Threads on the subject which might give you a few tips.

Thanks O'Henry. I looked at the Packimpex website and read the corporate housing. This is where we are going to need their help the most, the tenant change support. I read that renters can bring lots of issues on the plate when terminating the lease. If you can let me know details such as the name of the agent and his contact info. who helped you and how much they charge, that would be great.

Hi there and welcome to Basel.
Are you looking to live in an ex-pat area? The biggest areas are Storchenweg neighbourhood in Oberwil and in Reinach behind the International School. Both are very family friendly areas with lots of families in a similar situation with young children. However you do pay over the odd's for living in English speaking surroundings and it can be harder to integrate into the local Swiss community. It depends if you think you will be going down the ISB route for your children or local kindergarten. It might be worth checking availability. Any relocation agency would know of any apartments/houses which are available in these areas.

Also for just getting out and about have you found out about the BCT- Basel Children's Trust. They have lots of playgroups for children, information about schooling and much more. www.baselchildrenstrust.ch.

I hope you are enjoying Basel so far, I've got a 6 year old and a 3 year old (and an imminent bump) and we've somehow been here for 4 years now and love it. Basel is a great place for families.
