Female needs help in Basel

Hi All, this may be an unconventional post but I have only been in Basel 6 weeks and haven't been working so I don't know many people.

I moved here as a trailing spouse with a boyfriend of 2 years. Our relationship ended last night and so far this morning I've been yelled at, threatened and not allowed near the phone.

Does anyone know of organizations who help girls with temporary accommodation in situations like this. My (now ex) isn't abusive except verbally and I don't really feel in any danger despite the threats.

I start work on 15th and will be paid a small amount on the 25 so I guess I only need a couple of weeks help.

Thanks

Hi Shelby,

Here's the link you are looking for. They speak English and if you press the button for English in the right hand corner of the website, you get some info in English too.

Good luck and PM me if I can help with anything. Even if it's just a coffee to chat.

(I've been there and done that twice since being here so can sympathise)

EDIT: Here is the contact info if you can't find it on the website:

Kontaktadresse:

Dachorganisation Frauenhäuser:

Postfach 2543, 5001 AARAU
Tel. 079 435 16 08
dao@frauenhaus-schweiz.ch

Don't worry though, this isn't the address where the women stay. That is kept strictly confidential to protect the women who stay there.

You're more than welcome. Keep yourself safe and get out if you feel in danger. Verbal threats can quickly become physical attacks.

Put the number for the police in your phone (117) and also the number for the women's shelter in case you find yourself somewhere with no internet access and feel in danger.

It could just be high emotions making him act aggressive but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Mimi

Also, this is the Basel branch direct info:

Name:
Frauenhaus Basel

Adresse:
Postfach
4018 Basel

Telefon:
061 / 681 66 33

Telefax:
061 / 681 66 17

E-mail:
info@frauenhaus-basel.ch

However, I found the other one (main headquarters) spoke more English and could deal with the Basel one for you if you couldn't manage in German.

Re: Female needs help in Basel

Thank you. Unfortunately I don't have a mobile yet and I'm not being allowed to use the home phone. Luckily. I have an iPad but no phone function.

I tried to email the Basel branch but got a cannot be delivered alert. So I have emailed the main branch listed in your post.

Just crying to myself in the bed room. Sounds stupid but I don't want to pack until I have somewhere to go I don't want him to grab the suitcase and physically throw me onto the street.

My other half just emailed me and said you can come and stop in our spare room if you want? I can PM you the details.

Shelby take care of yourself and make smart decisions. It is certainly comforting to know the EF Community is helpful and supportive in many different circumstances! We have all been there (in need of help) at one point or other in a foreign country away from home.
Good luck, think positive and stay safe.

Mimi maybe if Shelby does take you up on your offer (even if it's just for coffee) you or your hubby can help her out getting a prepaid mobile?

Great idea I may even have a spare phone and pay as you go sim card somewhere.

I believe Shelby will be coming to stop with us from this evening onwards.

Mimi...and silent mirfield in the background...you're awesome.

Shelby: on your iPad, download Skype and load in with 10chfs. Then you can use it as a phone just in case. You'll need an Internet connection but you can get that n mcdonalds or a variety of other places.

Re: Female needs help in Basel

Thanks so much everyone for your help and kind words, I feel much less alone then I did this morning, Mimi has been kind enough to offer to let me stay with her until I can sort myself out.

My ex/bf whatever is a lot calmer now and I didn't mean to worry anyone, everyone is so supportive and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I'm going to get some headspace and I'll let everyone know what's going on later. I have a pre booked flight back to the UK for the weekend so at least I get to see my mum for a few days!

Thanks again x

@Mimi: bless you for your big heart. I don't think there are many people who could be more generous than you.

@Shelby: Be strong and don't give up. Hopefully something will work out.
Please don't this the wrong way but you are better off without such a jerk.
Do not consider your self helpless at any cost

I'm afraid I can't take all the credit mirfield said I could offer, so feel free to send him some rep too as I don't deserve it all

If Shelby decides she doesn't want to stop at ours, we've agreed to at least go for a coffee tonight so she has someone to talk to (and I'll also make sure I dig out that pre-paid mobile for her).

Re: Female needs help in Basel

Shelby I am flying back to the UK too tomorrow for the weekend, where are you going? I will be in London, I land at LHR at 8pm. I have a brand new spare Swiss phone you can have with about 30 CHF prepaid credit on it if by chance you are flying to London and we can have a coffee and chat about logistics of next few weeks if you want. I will have a room you can stay in from 15th but I'm not in Basel so may not be ideal for you. xxx
