Neu Oerlikon?

Just curious how this has developed. The last posts I found were from a few years back. My wife and I are looking for a decent, new (or renovated) apartment, as a mid-term solution, which is convenient for ETH Hönggerberg and the university on Irchel, and this seems like one good prospect. Walking around there during the day only gives some impressions; it seems there is some life at the end of the workday in some restaurants etc., but is some sort of community building there?

Any personal experience?

Alternatively, we are also looking at the new builds by the Zurich Affoltern S-Bahn station. The proximity to the Hönggerberg is obvious, the green space to the north is nice, and I've spent enough time running around the area (have a small 1.5-room for now in the area) to get a feel for the area. Nothing exciting, but could be pleasant enough to spend some time.

Re: Neu Oerlikon?

There are a number of different restaurants in New Oerlikon (also at the other side of station) as well as a full range of supermarkets including Aldi, Margo, Lido, Co-op, Chinese supermarket, Asian market etc.

I currently staying in the area and liked it enough to take an apartment in the Neu Oerlikon. It is very well sort after because of the new building and also facilities. As I do not have children, I do not really know all the child care etc but I have seen a few kindergardens and there is a nice park with picnic area etc, so it is very pleasant.

Another thing I like about Oerlikon is that it is one stop down from airport, one stop from Hardbrucker; two stop from Zurich HB. You can be out late and yet getting home is not a problem.

I hope this help you with your choice of new home. I know of a few new build in the area as well, so PM me if you would like to get together for a drink to check things out!
